seems that after 2 years it might be time to give this voxythingyamading a little update. i still don't entirely see how so many people can be granted free space in this blogosphereomabob with which they can directly do absolutely nothing if they so choose... how can that possibly be cost effective? hmmm.... are you my wingophone player???
Jax and I have turned a corner of sorts - perhaps it's that after two years of both of us working like mad and having to resort to pre-fab food, we've reached our limit. As our friends across two continents will know, we love good food. We love cooking it, and we love feeding it to guests. And now, with three new cookbooks from two of our fav UK cooks in the house, it's time to make a change.
Okay, so after you get over the shock of seeing a new post here after more than a year's absence, get a load of this amazing piece of documentary journalism. Paul Merton, beloved by J and me as ascerbic co-panelist on Britain's Whose line is it anyway?, seeks out and interviews one Mr. Woo during his series Paul Merton in China. Mr. Woo belongs to "The Schmo-heads" - as President and Chief Architect.
Looking for accommodations in Wolfville? There's lots of B&B's in the area, and motels just out of town. But we would suggest booking as soon as possible as our wedding is the same weekend at the Apple Blossom Festival. Here's a site that's run from staycanada.ca with lots of options.

We are having our reception in one of my favorite places in the world. As a student I would come to this place of peace and feel stronger and smarter the longer I sat there. My favorite spot was on the leather couch right in front of the huge fireplace. There, usually with pages and books spread all around me, I would sit and work for hours.
It didn't matter how stressed and grubby I felt walking in, I always felt rich in that place.
What beauty.
I can't wait to gather with the people I love most in this space.
Mmmmm I can just feel that lovely warm May sunshine!
(P.S. The sun will be setting at 8:52 pm on that night)
Just a quick post:
Here are a couple links to the Manning Memorial Chapel (where John is Organist and Choir Dir.) and the K.C. Irving Centre where the reception will be held.
The Irving Centre link will take you to a 'Virtual Reality' tour of the building. Really it's just a sliding picture, but nice none the less. The reception will be held in the Garden Room as well as the walled garden outside (weather permitting). They are the little red dots in the bottom right of the picture.

And the Chapel. Mostly self explanatory.

it's painfully out of date...
With friends and family spread far and wide we thought a centralized location for info, updates, and important (and not so important) chat would save some time and energy. If all goes according to plan, in the coming days you should be able to find on the site such things as; directions to Wolfville and Manning Memorial Chapel, places to stay, places to eat, things to see and do in the Wolfville and surrounding area, links to our wedding party members, reception details, and any oddities that may strike our collective fancy...

Can't wait to see everyone

This weekend was a good example of why I’m happy to be where I am. First off, one of the premier sailing events in North America, Swiftsure, took place over Saturday and Sunday (not counting all the festivities beforehand, which I didn’t take in). One of the best things about moving back to Island is that I now know several sailors, so in my 40s I’m finally going to get a chance to do some serious sailing.
Sunday evening I followed through on the bacon and blue cheese theme (!!??) when I went out with some of the university students we know through the church. A bunch of us went to the Irish Times Pub, on the assumption (correct, as it turns out) that there would be some hot music in the offing. I got all teary over my Guinness and—get this—Irish Poutine (so called). Those of you who are familiar with our various cultures north of the 49th parallel will know about the ‘real’ poutine. This was better: thick chunks of salty Irish bacon and crumbled Roquefort cheese over perfectly-cooked fries (chips), all covered in lovely chicken gravy (probably out of a can). The music was very good—just the right mix of recognisable tunes bent ever so lightly to the West Coast. Don’t ask me what I mean by that.
Come visit soon!
Well I have - for the first time.
Why did you see your own bones you may be asking. Well, here's the tale.
There was a Graduate Conducting recital on Sunday night in which I was a singer. For some reason (and I'm sure because of someone) the stage wasn't struck after the concert - so I was coerced into helping take down the accoustic shell and risers. Needless to say, this was not something I wanted to be doing, nor was it something I was supposed to be doing - but I was doing it.
As I was wrestling with one of the risers (very heavy 3-step folding metal things) it managed to loose itself from my grasp at about chest height and make a b-line for my toe!
The result....one seriously mashed big toe on my right foot (I guess not to be confused with the other big toe on my right foot?).
Off to the clinic I went, blood flowing freely, and toe nail shattered. Of course that's walk to the clinic...
Got slightly cleaned up there and shipped (more walking) off to the sports medicine place for an x-ray. That's when I saw my own bones.... and unfortunately a few more pieces then I was supposed to be seeing.
Compound fracture at the tip of my big toe - quite somethig to look at really.
After that, back (yup, walk) back to the clinic for more bandaging, then sent home (thankfully didn't walk).
So here I sit. Skipped classes today to save my toe for rehearsal tonight. Walking has been problematic, so we'll see how it goes tonight.
I was told I could have a walking cast for 4-weeks...to which I quite quickly said no. I'll be back in the clinic on Thursday for a check-up.
As I said to Duffy, I won't even ask how this place can get any worse - for it now seems there are no limits.
yup - so that's life in Edmonton
I guess there won't be any skipping down the grungy and garbage covered streets of downtown Edmonton, avoiding the homelss, crack dealers, and drunks for a little while. Pitty...
